Frequently asked questions

It's not uncommon that we have clients come to us who know that they want a video to help their business grow, but they don't know where to start or what to expect when purchasing a video from a video production company. And we often find in these situations that these are the most common questions we get asked.

How Much Does Video Production Cost?

The cost of video production varies widely. This is because "video production" encompasses everything from filming a simple social media clip in your office to creating a multi-location broadcast commercial. However, breaking down the components of a project can help clarify the costs involved.

Here are some key questions that guide us in determining the scope and budget of your project:

What quality and style of video are you looking for? Do you need drone footage or specific camera equipment?
How many cameras will be required? Multiple angles can enhance professionalism and viewer engagement.
Do we need to secure filming locations?
Will you need actors, voice talent, or other on-screen contributors?
How many videos are you planning to produce?
Will the project require editing, animation, or special effects?
Answering these questions helps us plan the team, equipment, and workload required for each stage of production. While video production is a significant investment, research consistently shows that video is one of the most effective marketing tools available.

How Long Does It Take to Produce a Video?

The time required to produce a video depends on its complexity and the details involved. Surprisingly, the pre-production (planning) and post-production (editing) phases often take longer than the filming itself.

Factors like the level of planning needed, the scope of the project, and the complexity of editing can all influence timelines. For example:

A simple live-action video might involve minimal pre-production but require detailed editing.
On the other hand, a heavily animated or effects-driven video might demand extensive post-production work.
The more clarity you have about your vision, the quicker and smoother the process will be.

What’s Involved in Storyboarding and Creative Direction?

You don’t need to have a fully formed idea before approaching a video production company. Many clients come to us with a general goal but need assistance fleshing out the creative direction. That’s where we step in!

We start by asking:

What’s the purpose of the video?
How should it reflect your brand, and what emotions or actions do you want it to evoke?
If you already have a storyboard or concept, we’ll bring it to life while offering professional insights. For example, we worked on a commercial for Tentbox where they provided a detailed storyboard.

What Cameras Do You Use?

Our go-to camera is the Sony FX3 but we follow a “right tool for the job” philosophy. Depending on the project, we also work with Sony, Canon, RED, ARRI, Blackmagic, and other high-end cameras to achieve the best results.

What’s the Video Production Process?

The process starts when a client approaches us with a vision and budget. Here’s how it typically unfolds:
Pre-Production: This includes storyboarding, casting, selecting props and wardrobe, booking locations, hiring crew, and planning technical details like camera setups.
Production: On shoot day, we bring all the preparation together for a 10–12-hour shoot.
Post-Production: Footage is edited and reviewed with the client, usually undergoing 3–4 rounds of revisions before final approval.

Do You Edit Your Videos?

Yes, most of our editing is done in-house, but we occasionally collaborate with specialised editors for specific projects to ensure the best results.
